Mercado Hidalgo Tijuana Mexico serves up a feast for food lovers with authentic Mexican eats. I wandered through the stalls, hit by the aroma of sizzling carnitas—tender, juicy pork that melted in my mouth—and savored tacos and tamales that echoed Mexico’s soul. Fresh produce, spices, and sweets added a culinary adventure, backed by research ranking Tijuana’s food scene high among North American border cities. Prices range from $2-$5, offering great value and variety for all.

The vibe takes a unique turn on the second floor—vendors peddle handmade crafts and quirky trinkets, where I snagged a colorful souvenir that still graces my shelf. The early 20th-century architecture, noted by historian Dr. Maria Gonzalez as a rare survivor, blends practicality with pride, creating a historic charm that surprises and delights as you explore.

The exterior view showcases stunning architecture—its perimeter buzzes with energy, vendors spilling out, and visitors soaking in the sights. I admired the functional layout that keeps the flow smooth, a living piece of Tijuana’s story after over a century.

This place is the staple of Tijuana! You have to go visit and walk around this place! This is for locals and tourists alike. Get your authentic Mexican candy, tamales to bring back home, piñatas, etc!!! For me, my favorite is the fresh fruit salads at a fraction of a cost!!!

There are lots of great deals and some not so great, but with the convenience of finding it all in one large shopping area. The individual stands offer everything from produce, sweets, mixed drinks, spices, party supplies, souvenirs, baked goods, even some prepared meals at a few sit-down dining areas. If you have time, and patience, you can find better prices from different vendors by shopping around. But mostly they have pretty similar pricing. We did notice some wholesale items at the party store had higher prices than one would get from buying at chain stores, like Calimax or Soriana. But the good thing about this place is you can get all your shopping done without driving to multiple stores. Definitely showing up earlier will ensure you find a parking spot!

Food is limited and it's more to buy produce and items. Service depends on stand you visit. Ambiance was ok. No parking due to high traffic

The market is fantastic. This is the place to go if you are in the market for kitchenware, herbs, spices, home improvement items, and other random things. They are open to bargaining and have fantastic deals. There was plenty of parking when we arrived in the morning, which was a blessing. Parking may become difficult after 10 or 11 in the morning. Additionally, it is a fantastic spot to relax and pass the time.

Best place for Mexican coke and candies. We always stop here before heading home. They also have a great selection of fresh cheeses and cooking supplies.

A great stop to shop around for items or foods! They have many stores but a notable one for us was El Texano where you can buy drinks that they make right in front of you including cantaritos, palomas, micheladas, and juices. A cantarito for us cost about $13 USD and you can keep the cup! Great for walking around the nice little marketplace.
